Romandy
Romandy is a wonderful combination: it’s not only a great place to live, situated as it is between lake and mountains, it also offers job opportunities normally only associated with big cities.
The Swiss economy is greatly oriented towards the service sector. This means that there are lots of IT career opportunities in the finance, banking and insurance sectors. There is also a healthy industrial sector, including luxury goods (Rolex, Richemont), agri-foods, chemicals and pharmaceuticals (Nestlé, Givaudan, Novartis, etc).
With interests both inside and outside Europe, a strong and stable currency, and a special tax system, large multi-nationals choose it as a location for their European HQs.
Because of its neutral status, Switzerland is also host to a large number of international (ONU, OMC, BIT, CERN, etc.) and sporting (CIO, UEFA, FIA, etc) bodies.
The region has a mobile, cosmopolitan population, and is home to a significant number of different communities. In addition to french and german, english is also a main language of business.
Switzerland may not have joined Europe yet, but a number of current agreements make it an attractive place for European IT specialists wanting to live or just work in Romandy.
